GREAT YELDHAM

House, C17, extended in early C19, altered in C20. Timber framed, plastered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays aligned approx. N-S, aspect W,
with central chimney stack, and rear wing from N end with external chimney stack
at end. 2 cottages added to E in 1837, later combined with main house. 2
storeys. W elevation, C20 door in glazed porch with tiled hipped roof, 2 early
C20 bay windows with hipped roofs. First floor, 3 double-hung sash windows of
4 lights, late C19. Roof hipped. The N elevation has good C19 pargetting,
the cottages in a looped combed design with an original inscription 'Nov 10,
1837. J. Bareham', the house in a chevron design. The interior has chamfered
axial beams with lamb's tongue stops.
