House, late C16, altered in C19 and C20. Timber framed, mainly plastered, with
some exposed framing, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3 bays aligned N-S,
aspect E, with external chimney stacks behind N and S bays. Extension beyond
NW stack, c.1600. 2 small extensions behind middle range. 2 storeys.
Originally jettied along whole E elevation, now underbuilt with the same lower
frames. 4-panel door with upper panels glazed, C20 tiled gabled porch, 2 ground
floor and 3 first floor windows of C17 type but altered in C19. The N elevation
has exposed framing, with 2 pairs of small original windows, each with an ovolo
mullion and ovolo-moulded surrounds. Similar pair of windows in upper E
elevation of N wing, blocked externally. There are 2 gables to the front. The
interior has jowled posts, heavy studding with curved braces trenched to the
inside, plain joists of horizontal section. The N ground floor room has an
ovolo-moulded beam. The N first floor room has 2 walls lined with late C16
panelling. There are numerous wrought iron casement windows, some in their
original form, some altered in C19 Tudor Revival style, with oblique saddle bars
and introduced diamond glazing. Some other introduced components. There is a
complete structural break between the S wing and the remainder. RCHM 11.
