Cottage, C18, extended in C19 and C20, now a public house. Part timber framed
and plastered, part clay lump, part painted brick in Flemish bond. Roofed
partly with thatch, partly with slate. 3 bays aligned approx. N-S, with axial
chimney stack at N end of middle bay, external chimney stack at S end. Aspect
east. Early C19 rear extension of clay lump, colour-washed, with thatched
roof. Late C19 north extension of brick, the NW corner rounded off, with hipped
slate roof. C20 flat-roofed single-storey extension to rear of it. Main range
single-storey with attics, 2 storeys in N extension. Ground floor has 2 half-
glazed doors, one 4-panel door, one C19 casement window, one C20 splayed bay,
one splayed bay of C18 leaded windows (4 fixed lights, one wrought iron
casement) and crenellated parapet on one short section. First floor has 2 C18
leaded windows each of 2 fixed lights and one wrought iron casement in dormers
with swept slate roofs. In N extension, one double-hung sash window of 16
lights on each floor. 2 diagonal shafts on main stack. Interior has axial beam
plain-chamfered without stops. Large wood-burning hearth facing S has been
reduced for coal fire. Bread oven to E of it, top broken, introduced iron door
with manufacturer's name. A simple building whose piecemeal development retains
its vernacular character.
