3/27 The Old Rectory

Rectory, late C18/early C19, now a private house. Part stucco, part red brick,
English bond, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Aligned approx. NE-SW,
aspect NW, with 2 axial chimney stacks symmetrically arranged. Front elevation
of stucco marked to imitate stone blocks, apparently on timber framed structure.
Rear elevation of red brick, Flemish bond, with penny joints and gauged brick
arches. Some crown glass and much early sheet glass in front windows. 2
double-hung sash windows of 24 lights. On first floor, central double-hung sash
window of 15 lights, one each side of 20 lights. Dentilled cornice, parapet,
hipped roof. Central half-glazed door, fanlight with intersected tracery.
Early C19 elaborate trellised porch, mostly latticed, Chinese-inspired
geometrical infill near base, flat roof with dentilled cornice. The porch is
particulrly valuable, a rare survival, probably dating from c.1815 the hood
possibly earlier.
