Reading room, library, and Museum. circa 1900 remodelling of older building.
Peeked coursed stone with ashlar dressings; pantiled roof with stone ridge,
coping and kneeler, brick stack. 2 storeys, 2 ;bays and left entrance bay of
1-storey height. At left of main building a boarded door, with big hinges,
under a flattened ogee lintel, the surround hollow-chamfered. Right 3-light
stone-mullioned windows with leaded glazing. Covet first-floor string. 2-light
stone-mullioned window on right and single light on left, all windows
chamfered. Left bay holds similar door and round-arched upper window with cross
finial; between them an ornamental rain water head. Swept roof has left end
coping and kneeler, right end stack. Rear elevation shows older masonry. 1
small fixed light, with headed glazing, and a boarded-up chamfered window in the
right bay; also a rooflight.
