Gate piers to carriage and pedestrian entrances to Castle Howard Park and
adjoining wall. Probably late C19. Sandstone. Piers to carriage entrance
flanked by curving walls terminating at piers, with continuation of straight
wall to right with piers to pedestrian entrance to end. Square-section
carriage entrance piers approximately 3 metres in height. Banded-rusticated
piers surmounted by cornice and cushion caps. Wall approximately 2.5 metres
in height of tooled ashlar with coping stones, terminating in rock-faced
piers with domed capitals. Wall to right approximately 10 metres long
and 2.5 metres in height with coping stones. Rock-faced piers with tooled
domed capitals. C20 timber gates. Included for group value.
