House and attached outbuilding: now house and cottage. Mid C18 with earlier
origins; subdivided early C19. House: hammer-dressed sandstone to front on
rubble plinth; coursed rubble sandstone to sides and rear; ashlar quoins;
pantile roof; rebuilt brick stacks. Cottage: coursed rubble sandstone;
pantile roof. House: centre stairhall plan, one room deep, with staircase
and service outshut; later kitchen added to rear. 2-storey, 3-window front.
Central 6-panel door under divided rectangular fanlight. 16-pane sashes
with stone sills throughout. Heavy, plain lintels to all openings.
Cavetto-moulded eaves course. Coped gables and shaped kneelers. End
stacks. Cottage: 6-panel door approached by stone steps, to left of 2-light
small-paned horizontal sliding sash. Similar window above. Interior of
house: original fittings include 6-panel doors with moulded, fielded panels
and moulded architraves. Early C18, open string, cantilevered staircase,
with turned balusters, fluted and reeded column newel, and wreathed
handrail. Fielded dado panelling to first floor. Firehood survives in
first floor room to right, and there is a later stone fireplace with a
corbelled-out lintel between scrolls inserted beneath the bressumer in the
room below. To either side are cupboards with panelled doors on H-L hinges.
In the ground floor room to left is a carved stone fireplace with attached
fluted and reeded columns, moulded architrave, carved frieze with strapwork
panels, and dentilled cornice shelf. Fielded dado panelling continues
across blocked doorway into cottage.
