Pigeon house, now a store. c1758-63, probably by James Paine for William
Middleton. Coursed gritstone and ashlar, stone slate roof. 2-storey
octagonal building with entrance on north side. Chamfered quoins, C19,
4-panel door with Gibbs surround and double keystone under a triangular
pediment. Louvered round-arched opening above. Projecting string-course at
first-floor level, moulded eaves cornice. The shallow roof has a wooden
lantern with lead roof and finial. East and west walls have alcove with
keyed oculus above. South side has blocked doorway with louvered opening
above. Interior is lined in brick and has nesting holes for approximately
500 birds. A wooden floor was inserted probably late C19.
