Circa 1870. Picturesque detached house at right-angles to the road, with the hill
descending to the right. 2 storeys and attics. Coursed rubble. Slate roof. Terra
cotta chimney pots. Main, east front: tripartite, the central and left-hand sections
are gabled (with pierced bargeboards), the right-hand section having a dormer.
Each section is of one window, that on the 1st floor being cusped. The central
section forms a tower, over the Gothic doorway with colonettes and gable. The right-
hand section has 2-light windows and the left-hand section has a single light window
on the 2nd floor, a 2-light one on the 1st floor and a 3-light bay on the ground
floor (with colonettes and a frieze of roundels above forming 1st floor balcony).
On the left, towards the road is a one-storey conservatory (said to be for big game
collection.) 9 bays of pink colonettes enclosing 2 casement windows at the right
end and raised panels otherwise. Continuous band of foliage at level of capitals;
frieze of cusped roundels above; semi-circular carved window boxes below. Glass
roof. Interior has full-length stained glass figures of Faith and Hope in large
staircase window; small panels over inner entrance. Decorative engraving on panel
in each of double outer doors. Elaborate encaustic tiles on lobby floor.
