GV II

Cotton weaving mill with warehouse, now (1990) used for
alternative commercial purposes. Dated 1863. Built for William
Richmond. Roughly squared coursed millstone grit rubble; slate
roofs.
Warehouse, 2 storeys and basement, with weaving sheds to
south, the latter enclosed by a perimeter wall. Warehouse
(Westgate elevation), 11 bays, follows the gentle curve of the
street; between bays 7 and 8 is a tall separately coped and
gabled transverse wall with no masonry joint visible to
roadside. Street entrance adjacent to this with simply
chamfered surround. 2-light, 6-paned windows to upper floors;
basement windows boarded or with grilles. East (left) end wall
with enlarged vehicle entrance under an advertisement
hoarding. 12-bay rear elevation with fenestration as to front.
Weaving sheds appear to survive intact (not inspected).
Attached to south-west corner a square wing of 2 low storeys
with 3 windows in west side, pyramidal roof. Chimney stack and
engine house demolished.
INTERIOR of warehouse with chamfered ceiling beams to ground.
