Gateway lodge and attached flanking walls. 1805-6 by William Atkinson for
Col. Thomas Richard and Diana Beaumont. Ashlar, roof not visible. Two
storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front and rear facades. Giant central round-
archway flanked by fluted Roman Doric columns supporting the full entablature
and blocking course. The side bays project slightly with single 12-pane sash
windows to ground floor and limestone panels with relief carvings of biblical
scenes to 1st floor. Simple iron gates with dog bars. Low, small wing to
each side. The walls sweep forward to each side and terminate in square
piers. C20 additions to rear of side wings. Within the archway is a doorway
to each side that to right with 6-panel door. Sunk panel above each door.
