Congregational church. Circa 1846; altered. Coursed squared sandstone with
green slate roof. Rectangular plan, 6 bays, with gabled front to road.
Early English style. Clasping corner pilasters terminating in spired
octagonal pinnacles, and between these 2-centred arches or dreading on
3 levels: at ground floor a central doorway chamfered in 2 orders, containing
double doors with ornamental iron hinges, and set in a raised surround with
clasping corner pilasters, flanked by blind arches, all these arches with
hoodmoulds on carved stops; above this, a weathered stringcourse from which
rises a band of blind arcading with steeply-pointed double-chamfered arches
on colonettes with annular caps; and at the upper level a quintuple group of
stepped lancets, the outer ones blind and formed only of the arches; gable
finial. Side walls each have 6 very tall lancets, all with hoodmoulds on
jewelled stops, and gutter brackets which match these stops. Rear gable has
single-storey gabled extension, and a stepped 3-light blind window.
Interior: gallery on 3 sides, with blind arcade panelling.
