Formerly the centrepiece of Alport School, now a dwelling, 1745 (see
Alport House, item 63 and Alport Cottage, item 65 for the wings).
Flemish bond brown brickwork; grey slate roof. The wings project.
2-storeys; 3 bays. Red sandstone plinth. 4 plain brick pilasters
divide the facade into 3 panels; 3-course brick band at 1st floor;
dentilled 3-course brick band below brick parapet of 6 panels with
moulded stone coping. Nailed boarded door on old wrought iron hinges
with replaced 6-pane casement to each side. On upper storey a 4-pane
replaced casement to each side; slightly recessed stone plaque at
centre inscribed (above shield bearing 6 bells) "The Charity of
Richard Alport late of Overton in this Parish, Esquire, 1745". The
plaque and door and window openings are all under flat gauged brick
arches with keystones. Stone coped end gables have projecting brick
chimneys with 1-course bands and replaced caps of 3 courses of blue
brick.
Interior: Much altered in conversion to dwelling, has 3 ogee-stopped
chamfered main beams of oak to former school hall and dogleg stair
with shaped splat balusters; they look 50 years older than the
datestone.
