- St Michael, Burleydam
GV II
Railings, piers and gates. Early C18. Cast iron. Double gates with
pier to either side. The pales of the gates and railings all
terminate in arrow heads and have similar dog bars to their lower
bodies. The gates have a slam plate and an ogee-shaped overthrow
connecting the two piers which are of square plan and have
cyma-moulded bases and capitals and infill of interlacing tracery.
The railings, piers and gates were brought from Llewenny and were
noted by Dr Johnson on his visit to Combermere Abbey in 1774.
