This beautiful Georgian building is at Cotehele Quay on the side of the River Tamar. The central windows have been filled in - presumably to avoid the Window Tax - and have been cleverly painted to appear natural. The Grade II-listed Edgcumbe Arms was formerly an inn dating from around the late 1700's or possibly early 1800's and has now been converted to a restaurant and tearoom for the National Trust. To the right of the building are former lime kilns, used to make lime with which to dress the farmers' fields and improve the yield of crops. The coal and limestone required to make the lime would have been brought up the River Tamar, with the coal almost certainly coming from south Wales. The quay and the Cotehele estate both belong to the National Trust.
