Large farmhouse. Late C17 with early C18 or Cl9 additions and alterations.
Sandstone rubble, garden front has some brick infill and dressed sandstone
section to right; mainly renewed pantiled roofs; rendered stone stacks.
Garden front, refenestrated in early Cl9, has dressed quoins. 2-storey, 4-bay
section with later, slightly-projecting 2-storey, 2-bay section to right. Part-
glazed 6-panel door in architrave with keystone in third bay from left; 4-pane
sashes in raised surrounds. Steeply-pitched roof has coped gables with shaped
kneelers; corniced end stacks and similar ridge stack. One-storey, one-bay
addition to right has large 6-pane sash, semicircular bread oven at right return
and steeply-pitched roof with right end stack of brick. Shed attached to right
has boarded door and steeply-pitched roof.
Rear has central projecting gabled, 2-storey staircase wing flanked by later
2-storey outshuts. 12-pane stair window with thick glazing bars and radial head
in raised surround with keystone and impost blocks; gable has moulded coping and
shaped kneelers. Irregular fenestration of outshuts includes two 2-light flat-
faced mullioned windows with 18-pane lights and thick glazing bars; several 6-pane
sashes in raised surrounds. Two-pitch roof has coped gables with shaped kneelers.
Interior: early-mid C18 panelling in several rooms; Entrance Hall has built-in
cupboards, 6-panel doors and 2-panel window shutters. Two-flight, cut-string
dogleg staircase with two turned balusters per tread and wreathed and ramped
handrail.
