NZ 11 NE GAINFORD SELABY

6/127 Garden walls and
summerhouse, 20 metres
west of Selaby Hall
II


South gateway, east and north garden walls with summerhouse at north-east
corner. Mid Cl9 incorporating C18 features. South gateway dressed sandstone;
east wall sandstone rubble with flat coping; north wall mainly mid C19 brick
with flat stone coping; summerhouse dressed sandstone with graduated green
slate roof.

South gateway has roll-moulded pointed arch of two orders on compound piers
set in wall; re-set head corbel and flanking shields above- arch. Summerhouse
with projecting semicircular bay in front of square-plan room; bay has 4-pane
fixed light under hoodmould and semiconical roof;square-headed doorway in
right return. Both returns linked to east wall by double, quadrant ramps.
East wall linked to north wall by short section of brick wall with convex
quadrant plan.

West wall and south wall are very low and not of special interest.
