Large group almost enclosing a courtyard. Of C16 origin, enlarged in the
C17 and refronted to the road in C18. Red brick; old tile roof with moulded
wooden eaves cornice. Four chimneys. Two storeys. First floor with 11
flush sashes and moulded brick stringcourse at ground floor level. Ground
floor: NO 49. Restored C19 shop front with windows and central entrance
framed by plain pilasters, carrying entablature. NO 51 with modern door
within wooden doorcase with moulded surround, panelled reveals and Tuscan
pilasters and flat wooden hood on carved brackets. Left hand with paired
flush sashes. Right hand with 2 flush sashes. Between Nos 51 and 53a,
a carriage entrance with wooden doors within moulded wooden frame. Inside
walls show timber-framing and ceiling beams. NO 53a. Ground floor with
modern door within timber doorcase with open pediment and one sash. Above
the door, a little exposed timber-framing.- At the rear, a much restored
C17 range of timber-framed buildings. Red brick nogging. Two storeys.
