Milepost. Late C19. Cast iron painted white. Small triangular-plan milepost
with sloping top and semicircular back plate. Raised sans-serif letters painted
black: BROUGH 7 MILES (on NW face); MIDDLETON 7 1/4 MILES (on SW face). Similar
lettering (NORTH RIDING OF YORKSHIRE) on back plate has been painted out white
as the milepost is now within County Durham.
