Wesleyan Chapel. 1840, extended c1900. Yellow brick front with ashlar
dressings; plinth, sides and rear of squared limestone with red brick window
arches. Slate roof. Classical Revival style. Rectangular on plan.
2 storeys, 3 bays; symmetrical. Plinth. Central entrance bay and angles
defined by pilasters with moulded capitals supporting plain entablature with
moulded fillet and cornice and coped parapet above. Flight of steps to pair
of recessed doors in ashlar architrave with recessed rectangular panel above
bearing heavily-weathered inscription first floor flanked by 16-pane sashes
in similar surrounds. 3-course brick first floor band across recessed bays.
Similar first floor windows. Roof hipped to rear. 2 cylindrical lanterns
with conical caps. Interior: sanctuary contains original gallery with
moulded base and cornice supported on tapered columns, ceiling with moulded
cornice and central rose with Classical-style floral decoration. Later C19
pews and pulpit.
