Description

WERRINGTON
SX 38 NW
9/258 Bullapit Hill Cottage
-
II

House. Circa mid C17. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Thatched roof
with gable ends. Stone rubble end stacks with brick shafts.
Plan: The house was converted from two one-room plan cottages in the circa mid C19.
It is possible however, that the house was originally of two-room and cross passage
plan, heated by end stacks and has reverted back to that plan. Small C20 extension
to rear left.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical three window front. C20 plank door with
slate open porch to left of centre and C20 glazed double doors in similar C19 porch
to right of centre. Circa C19 one-light casement in centre and two C20 2-light
casements on far right and left. Three C19 2-light casements on first floor.
Interior: First floor replaced in C19 or C20 with unmoulded cross beams and slight
unmoulded floor joists. Fireplaces with cloam ovens and replaced lintels. One of
the lintels has been used as a garden seat outside and is chamfered with a straight-
cut stop.
First floor and roof structure not inspected.
