Description

TL 4478 SUTTON THE ROW
(South side)

17/57 No 17 (The Granary)

II

Cottage. Late C16-early C17, C18 and mid-late C20 extensive renovations and
restorations. Timber frame, cased and partly rebuilt in brick, C18, and
painted. Cement tile roof. C18 ridge stack of red brick. One storey and
attic. Three modern dormers. Three modern ground floor casements in C18
openings. Interior: the framing in the walls is visible only in one or two
places and the thickness of the walls suggests either casing or rebuilding in
brick. There are however abutting inglenook hearths and the ceiling over the
centre has heavy joists laid flat. The present doorway is possibly on the
site of the original cross passage.
