House. c.1670 with early C18 extension and C19 and C20 alterations. Red
brick. Plain tile hipped roofs. Two original stacks and early C18 side
stack to wing with upper courses rebuilt. Two storeys and attics, double
pile plan with extension to north-east. Band between floors of original
building and brick plinth. Deep modillioned eaves cornice possibly
restored. South-east elevations. Main entrance in original position with
C19 six-panelled door and rectangular fanlight in cambered brick arch. One
ground floor and two first floor C19 twelve-paned recessed hung sash windows
either replacing or repositioning earlier windows. Four C18 windows with C19
replacement twelve-paned hung sashes. South-west elevation. Four square
framed windows with semi circular heads to central lights copied from
original c.1980. Interior: Very fine close string staircase rising in short
flights to attic floor (RCHM, plate 39), early C18 stone chimney piece with
side consoles and Rococo scroll-work, relined kitchen hearth and evidence of
corner hearths to south-west rooms.
