House, formerly mill-house. Probably C18 reusing earlier material, partially
rebuilt in late C20 with contemporary addition. Granite and slate stone rubble
walls. Gable ended slate roof. Gable end rubble stacks with off-sets.
Plan of 2 principal rooms each heated by gable end stack; at rear is apparently
integral outshut also of 2 rooms reached individually from the rooms in front, the
right-hand one had separate external access in the end wall. The house became
derelict in the later C20 and had to be partially rebuilt incorporating a number of
new granite mullion windows. At this stage a single storey addition was built at
the right-hand end, replacing an earlier leanto. Many earlier granite features are
incorporated in the fabric.
2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front. First floor windows are late C20 metal
frame casements with diamond leaded panes. The 2 ground floor windows are an
unusual form of mullion : the left-hand one is a late C20 facsimile of the other
which may be a very late type of mullion. Each has a simply moulded granite frame
with similar central mullion, all flush with the outside wall. At the centre is
acute 4-centred granite arched doorway with double hollow chamfer. At right-hand
gable end is probably original square-headed granite framed light. Attached to the
gable end is single storey late C20 extension. At left gable end no straight joint
is descernible between the main block and the outshut although this end was
partially rebuilt. In the gable end of the outshut are 2 original single light
square-headed mullions.
Interior: Each of the 2-front rooms has a 4-centred arched granite doorway into the
room behind. The front right-hand room has a fireplace with chamfered granite
surround, the lintel of which may be a replacement. The rear right-hand room has a
4-centred arched granite doorway in its gable end wall which originally led to the
exterior but is now enclosed by the C20 extension. The roof trusses were complete
replaced during the C20 repairs.
