Inn, C17 and C18, extended in C19 and C20. Timber framed, roughcast rendered
with facade of red brick in Flemish bond, roofed with handmade red clay tiles.
4 bays aligned approx. E-W with axial chimney stack one bay from W end, C17.
Parallel range to S, C18, aspect S. Rear extension from E end with axial
chimney stack, C19/20. Single-storey extensions to W, C20. Symmetrical facade
with plastered dado. 6-panel door in doorcase with panelled reveals and
dentilled open pediment. Fanlight with radiating tracery. 2 pairs of double-
hung sash windows, 6-light upper sashes, one-light lower sashes, under segmental
brick arches. First floor, 3 double-hung sash windows, 2-light upper sashes,
one-light lower sashes, under segmental brick arches. Both roofs hipped.
Interior of rear range has plain-chamfered axial beams with plain stops, and
clasped purlin roof. Front range has transverse and axial beams boxed in.
A sale catalogue of 1887, framed in the bar, describes this building as The
Lion commercial inn, then part of the Bower Hall estate.
