Farmhouse, now divided into 2 cottages. C.1600 with later additions
and alterations. Timber framed with plaster infill on painted brick
plinth; machine tile roof. L-plan with gabled cross-wing projecting
to rear. 2 storeys. Framing: small square and rectangular panels,
4 from cill to wall-plate but altered to front of main range, with
occasional quatrefoil decoration and short straight tension braces;
front gable of cross-wing has herringbone decoration above tie beam;
collar and tie beam truss with raking and vertical struts and v-struts
from collar to rear gable; massive projecting double-purlin ends and
C19 cusped bargeboards to all gables. Mid-C19 fenestration; 3-light
cast-iron Gothic casements, one to ground floor of main range and
one to gabled half-dormer directly above, one on each floor to front
gable of cross-wing. Entrances to left and right sides through boarded
doors with bracketed lean-to hoods. Large ridge stack to right of
main range rebuilt in mid-C19 blue engineering brick with moulded
capping. Interior: not inspected but said to have massive deep-chamfered
ceiling beams and heavy joists.
