GV II
School, built by the Leicester Poor Law Union for the cottage homes in 1884.
Architect I. Baradale. Brick with Welsh slate roof. Built in 3 distinct
units around a small playground. The main block in the centre is very plain,
one and a half storeys with a steep Welsh slate roof and one gabled dormer
window. It is linked on the left by two semi-circular brick arches, one
giving access through to the yard, and the other forming a window opening for
a school office, in the left hand wing. There is a 4 light timber mullioned
window in the first floor of the gable end of this wing and below it is a pair
of French windows, flanked by a single light wooden casement. Wide
overhanging eaves with exposed purlins in the gable. On the outer slope of
the roof are 3 dormer windows, 2 smaller ones flanking a central larger
dormer. These have 3 lights and 4 lights respectively. The right hand wing
has a similar set of dormers on its outer slope. The same high gable and
steeply pitched roof with an eliptical arched window in the gable. On the
ridge a timber and lead bellcote and spire with crucifix.
