Harraton Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. C17 and C18 with modifications. Rubble, slate and asbestos-cement
slate roofs. An L-plan building, with 2-storey porch to cross passage. Two
storeys; left of porch a 4-light casement with horizontal bars beneath a C20
plastic casement in half-gable. Porch has a 3-light casement with ovolo mould
lintel, above a chamfered round arch covering inner plank door with ovolo mould
surround. To the right a 4-light casement with horizontal bars and a small
casement under a plastic casement in half-gable. Right return is plain, with
some brick walling and a one-storey lean-to, then a lower hipped wing with
16-pane sash; this wing probably C19, makes a U-plan. Main wing is gabled, with
a swept down section over projection, presumed staircase turret, in internal
angle. Small-pane casements. Roof of main block wept down over door with
transom light to cross passage. Two large stone stacks, one at ridge to left
cross passage, and one to right gable. Interior not accessible, but said to
have chamfered beams to kitchen, and an early fireplace, but parlour fireplace
replaced.
