Cottage. Circa mid C17 or earlier. Colourwashed and rendered, probably stone with a
thatched roof, hipped at ends and continued as a catslide to the rear outshut;
central stack with brick shaft.
Plan: Single depth main block, 2 rooms wide with back to back fireplaces in a stack
in the centre; entrance on front to right of centre partly against the side of the
chimneybreast; C19 porch and second entrance on left end wall. Rear outshut may be a
later addition; stairs to rear right within outshut.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2 window front; plank and cover strip C19 front
door to right of centre; 2- and 3-light small pane timber casements except first
floor left which is a probably C18 iron casement with square leaded panes. Painted
gabled back porch on left return.
Interior: Both ground floor rooms have chamfered stopped cross beams; the right hand
fireplace has a chamfered scroll-stopped lintel. On the first floor there is a
blocked slit window on the right end wall. Roof timbers not accessible at time of
survey (1986) but may be of interest.
An unusually small and very unspoilt C17 cottage.
