Detached house, divided into 2 cottages, and open-fronted store.
Mid C17. Roughly coursed squared and dressed limestone; stone
slate roof; squared and dressed limestone stack repaired in brick.
Rectangular plan with wash house at the south-east corner; open-
fronted store at right angles to the wash house. Lean-to at the
west gable end of the house not of special interest. Main body: 2
storeys and attic. Symmetrical, 2-windowed entrance (south-east
front) facing away from road. Two and 3-light ovolo-moulded stone-
mullioned casements with hoods. Two 2-light hipped slate-hung roof
dormers with horizontal glazing bars. Central C19 plank door
within a Tudor-arched flat-chamfered roll-moulded surround to No
54. C19 plank door far right to No 55. Single-storey wash house
projects forwards to right. Two-windowed rear elevation to house:
one 3-light stone-mullioned casement with ovolo-moulded mullions
and stopped hood ground floor right; 2-light wooden casement with
timber lintel left. Single-light and 3-light metal casement with
timber lintel to the first floor. Open-fronted store faces away
from the house with a former earth closet at the rear. Five-bay
front divided by square stone-built piers. Axial stack to main
body, former gable-end stack now removed. Roof to cottages and
store in poor state of repair at time of resurvey (September 1986)
