Farm House, former Manor House, c.1650, alterations in 1722 and in late C19.
Red brick and pantiles. 'H' shaped plan of 2 storeys, with attics in north
wing. Main entrance facade to west with off-centre 2 storey porch in central
bay flanked by cross wings. Irregular double splayed arch with moulded base
and imposts, flanked by rusticated pilasters. Inserted string course above.
Inserted C19 sash window with glazing bars under brick pediment Moulded
brick kneelers to parapet gable with blocked oculus. Brick dentil eaves.
Central bay rebuilt in C19 above first floor window sills. Ground floor window
to left of porch in splayed opening with flat head and brick hood mould.
3, C19 windows above. Flanking wings, windows with C17 pediments and C19
4-light mullion and transom windows on ground and first floors and 2-light
windows at attic floor level. Ground floor north wing window blocked. Southern
cross wing possibly a later C17 addition. String course at eaves level.
Moulded brick kneelers and curved gables to north. Rebuilt stepped gable
to south. North wall of north wing has external stepped stack with C19 porch
with curved gable. South wall of south wing late C19 rebuilding with external
stacks flanking central 5-light window with pediment. East facade central
bay has off-centre external stepped stack, rebuilt above eaves. Inserted
C19 2-light mullion and transom windows with splayed reveals and hood moulds.
C19 pediment over blocked door to right of stack. Inserted C19 part-glazed
door with fanlight and stone hood on brick corbels. South cross wing has
inserted 3-light windows with C19 pediments and platband at attic floor level.
Rebuilt stepped gable with brick kneelers and date stone inscribed "S.Y.I.A."
1722 (Jacob Astley of Melton Constable Hall). Garage doors inserted in north
cross wing under C17 pediment. 4-light casements at first floor and 2-light
casements at attic floor level with C17 pediments above. Curved gable with
string course at eaves level. Brick plinth and brick dentil eaves to all
elevations. Interior mainly C19. Ovolo moulded, chamfered, spine and cross
beams with ogee and bar stops. Some early C18 doors and C17 butt purlin roof
with wind braces at north end.
