GV II

Rectory, now private house, early C19. Rendered and whitewashed with
tiled roofs and end brick stacks. 2 parallel ranges. Symmetrical,
2-storeys and attics, 3-bays. 12-pane sashes. Ground floor has 2 canted
bays. Central, part-glazed door with moulded, lugged architrave and flat
hood on brackets.

Internal features (RCHM): some rooms retain original joinery including
round-headed niche with shaped shelves; stairs with vase-and-column
balusters, Tuscan newel-posts and scroll spandrels.

Thomas Hardy, the poet and novelist, is reputed to have lived in the house
at one time. (RCHM, Dorset, vol V, p 54, no. 3).
