10/24 The Old Vicarage
II
House. Second half C18 for Rev. R. Gregg, altered early C19.
Flemish bond brickwork front, English garden wall bond to side and
extension, tiled roof, slate to rear wing. Hollow square, each
side 1 room deep, front 3½ storeys, rest 2. Main front, windows
with stone sills and flat rubbed brick arches. Central half-
glazed door up 2 stone steps, moulded surround, flush panels to
reveals: plain pilasters and pediment late C20 replacing added
porch. Sash window each side. First floor, sash window each
side, semi-circular head to centre sash, with blind single-lights
to form false Venetian window. Three sash windows to second
floor, dentil eaves. Brick gable chimneys, dentil course to caps.
Right return blind openings to each floor on left side, cambered
brick arches, on right 4-pane casement ground floor, sashes above.
Rear of front wing, to courtyard, blind openings: two 2-light
casements to dormers.
Interior: entrance hall floor above rooms each side, left with
plastered barrel vault. Stairs moulded, swept handrail, turned
newels, plain, slightly rectangular balusters. First floor 6
fielded panels to doors; panelled shutters to room on left,
folding panelled doors to room behind, moulded plaster cornice:
tripartite window. Four fielded panels to second floor doors:
moulded stone surround to fireplace in room on right, cast-iron
grate with swivel support for kettle. Built as 2 parallel wings
connected only by an open courtyard: wings each side added in C19.
