Wealden hall house and byre, now house. Mid C15, refurbished 1958.
Timber framed with brick infill, and part brick; old tile roof. L-plan;
3 framed bays with former hall in centre, jettied on road front. Former
byre of 2 framed bays adjoining at rear. 2 storeys. Large tall raked
chimney at rear. Road front:-exposed timber framing on first floor,
large curved brackets supporting jetty beam from ground floor posts.
Centre part of former recessed hall underbuilt in brick; moulded
bressumer beam on left and right of this section continuing on adjoining
No.35 (listed separately 18/70 ). Part close studded on left. C20
leaded casements, those on first floor 3, 4 and 5-light, all behind
diamond mullions. Small leaded oriel on ground floor to right of
planked entrance door with small glazed section in centre, approached
by 2 steps. Interior:- fine quality frame exposed. Heavy plain joists
and principal beams with chamfers and stepped stops. Light joists
inserted floor over former hall and moulded bressumer beam returned on
west side. Shutter grooves to windows on north front on ground and first
floors. Complete frame exposed on first floor with former louvred smoke
outlet, now roofed over, in apex in east of hall bay. Exposed redundant
crown post roof with clasped purlins, large curved knee and wind braces
and reducing principal rafters. Broad rafters with holes in feet,
facing west.
