Cottages and former Spa (converted to cottage) c.1807. Coursed rubble with
ashlar quoins and dressings, the former Spa Pump Room is in ashlar; Cotswold
stone roofs, coped verges, ashlar chimneys; No 3 stepped down hill. The main
part, Nos 1 and 2, has an ashlar central feature in the Hindu (Sezincote)
style; 1½ storeys, panelled flanking pilasters, panelled and enriched parapet:
2 dormers with concave gables and finials and with glazing bar sash window;
2 diamond-pane windows on ground floor with ogee-headed double surround capped
by anthemion finials; central doorway with panelled pilasters, concave sided
panel over and an extraordinary stone segmental hood capped by a pineapple
finial; (20 half glazed door with diamond glazing). The flanking cottages
(Nos 1 and 2) are 2 storeyed and have raised surrounds to openings; central
paired windows with lobed heads and diamond lattice casements, outer ledged
doors; No 1 has 2-light stone mullioned attic window in gable. No 3 is plainer:
2 storeys, 3 windows. 2-light leaded casements with raised surrounds; central
doorway over which is a keyed bullseye inscribed "Carbonated Chalbyate Discovered
1807". The back of the Spa Cottage (Pineapple Spa) has reverse quadrant walls
forming a later skullery; inside is a vaulted cellar over the spring; the
main room has a tall arch with rusticated outer jambs - presumably this
entry was once open.
