4/50 Hop kiln complex about
25 yards west of
Hall Court

Hop kilns. Early and late C19. Brick, slate roofs, wooden ventilators
and vane. Roughly cruciform complex consisting of four-bay early C19
gabled block with late C19 square plan kiln attached to west and and two
contemporary drying blocks running off at right angles, one to the north
and one to the south. Two storeys. North elevation: early C19 part to
left has segmentally-headed opening obscured by low gable to left of entry;
to the right is a late C19 block with two casements, each of two lights in
the gable and a longitudinal ridge ventilator; at the extreme right is a
square hop kiln with one light centrally placed just above the ground floor
and a door to the left. Interior: pegged trusses of early C19 part have
principals jointed below collars carrying short king-posts with angle struts
to principals. A complete hop complex closely related to Hall Court (qv)
which is the centre of a working hop farm. Included for group value.
