TL 5078 (South Side)
20/30 No. 73 (Ivy House)
II
House. Circa 1700 with late C18 service wing at the rear. Narrow local
brick, Flemish bond in the front and east end wall, and English bond to west
gable end. Plain tiled roof in the front, and cement tiles to rear with
tumbled gable end parapets on kneelers. L-plan. Two storeys and attic with
plinth and peat band. Three modern dormers replacing the original. Three
mid-late C20 small pane wood casements replacing original three light
cross-frame casements (see photo in possession of owner) similar to those in
rear side walls of No. 82 (Clare House), Main Street (q.v.). C18 segmental
arches to two modern wood windows on either side of doorway. Early C19 reeded
doorcase with paterae enrichment and eliptical head and narrow hood. West
gable end has rebuilt brickwork, but similar to the house, possibly indicating
a rebuild of the stack. The rear range is also early C18. Narrow local
brick, English bond and modern tile roof. On rear wall window has original
header brick segmental arch. Interior: Brick and timber staircase at side of
inglenook in west gable end. C19 main staircase and half-glazed interior
doors.
