Barn and stables about 25 yards east of Wall End Farmhouse

Barn and stables. C17, altered C18 and late C20. Part sandstone rubble, part
timber-framed and weatherboarded with corrugated iron roof. Six bays aligned
roughly east/west. Barn occupies three easternmost bays and has a central wagon
bay with opposed cart entries and double doors. Stable situated in three western-
most bays. Two levels. Main south elevation has three doors with square side
lights (two of the doors have cambered brick heads) and three loft openings.
Interior: barn framing has three rows of square panels from sill to wall-plate
and there is a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, four struts to lower
collar, two to upper collar and a V-strut in the apex at the east end. Stable
framing has one row of large rectangular panels from sill to wall-plate, long
straight braces across the lower corners and collar and tie-beam truss with three
struts at west end. Some intermediate trusses have been altered. Two tiers of
trenched purlins. The barn and stables adjoin Great House Farmhouse (qv) to the
east.
