Dovecote. Mid- to late C16; altered mid-C19. Dressed coursed sandstone
rubble and plain tiled conical roof. Circular plan. Raised in height and
chamfered eaves cornice added mid-C19. Entrance on east side. C19 lantern
missing. Interior: seven tiers of nesting holes in stonework with two tiers
of continuous stone alighting ledges; five tiers of timber nesting boxes above.
Potence survives. The dovecote is situated on a small piece of land that pro-
jects into the fishpond. The fishpond and adjacent terraced gardens were
created by John Talbot during the late C16 and the dovecote was included as
part of this scheme. (The Birmingham Post Booklet: Grafton Manor: a short
history, 1980).
