Public house; part of row. Early/mid C16 with early C19 and C20 alterations,
additions and rebuilding. Timber-framed with close studding and plastered infill
and high colourwashed rubble plinth to right part; first 2 bays are rendered;
rear rebuilt and wings added in whitewashed brick. Plain-tile roof; C20 brick
ridge stacks. U-plan with wings to rear. 2 storeys; 5-window range. First bay is
jettied and gabled. C20 half-glazed door and overlight has moulded surround.
Early C19 segmental bow window has curved 20-pane sash with moulded wood
pilasters and entablature. 2-light C20 metal casement above. Second bay has
4-light leaded C20 casements. Right part has exposed framing and jettied first
floor with some curved brackets, and 2 curved braces. Half-glazed 4-panelled
door has early C19 moulded wood surround and flight of steps. C20 projecting
window on brackets to left. 2 old canted bays have 3-light wood mullioned and
transomed windows. First floor has 2- and 3-light wood and iron casements. Most
windows are leaded. Right return side has jowled posts, but framing is mostly
renewed or sham. Interior has altered open fireplace and some chamfered beams,
one with ogee stop.
