II BULLO PILL
Large detached house. Mid to late C19, possibly built for harbour master at Bullo
Pill. Red brick in Flemish bond, Welsh slate roof. Large square block to broad
gables and with small octagonal corner turrets to stone crenellations; wide central
ridge stack . Front is two storeys and attic, symmetrical 5-window front; 2 light
stone mullioned casements, with horizontal bars, stone stopped hood moulds. To attic
one 2-light flanked by two small triangular lights. Pair of 4-panel fielded doors
under radial fanlight to simple brick arch; offset brick plinth, course plat-band at
first floor level. Back elevation the same but replacement door. To front the case-
ments have 4-centred arched heads, but at the back they are normal rectangular heads.
Plain flanks have one large window to each floor level. Interior has dog leg stair-
case with stick balusters and decorative ends to treads; dado panel to handrail height.
Stair possibly of C18, reset from another property. Bullo Pill was one of several
Severn-side landing stages with minor industrial activity mostly now disappeared.
There was a tramway line from the wharf to just west of Bullo House, which it is con-
jectured may have housed the harbour master.
