House. Mid/late C17 with late C18/early C19 alterations.
Coursed squared limestone with small addition to centre front
of ashlar, brick and stucco over timber-framing. Stone slate
roof with Welsh slate on rear wing; rebuilt brick ridge stack
and stacks on rear wing. House is L-plan and has large rear
wing; 2 gables to street, that to right set back and possibly
earlier than larger gabled portion to left.
2 storeys and attic; 4-window range. Two 6/6-pane sashes in
C17 ovolo-moulded stone surrounds with stone mullions and
transoms cut out to first floor left; one small oval window in
late C18/early C19 moulded stone surround to centre; one C17
three-light chamfered stone-mullion window with hoodmould to
first floor right. Gable to left has one C17 ovolo-moulded
stone mullion and transom window; gable to right has one C17
two-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullion window. Two 6/6-pane
sashes in C17 ovolo-moulded stone surrounds with mullions and
transoms cut out to ground floor left; one simple 3-light C19
shop window under defaced hoodmould to ground floor right.
6-panel door with fanlight in round-headed opening with
moulded stone architrave to centre; C19 former shop door with
upper glazed portion now blocked. Moulded strings over ground
and first floors in left-hand portion and above windows in
both gables; blank oval stone plaque with moulded edge below
window in left-hand gable.
INTERIOR: enclosed winder staircase with no handrail to first
floor; late C17 closed-string dog-leg staircase with heavy
turned balusters and continuous newel to second floor. (Second
floor not inspected). Ground floor front left has simple late
C18/early C19 stone chimneypiece, arched recess with
architrave surround to left, dado rail, chamfered beam with
run-out stop. Ground floor front right has beam with applied
plaster moulding of late C18/early C19 date. Limestone railing
bases, railings now missing, to front left.
