Retaining wall to S side of gardens
in front of Adelaide Crescent

GV II

Retaining wall to gardens. c1830. Designed by Decimus Burton.
Cement render over brick. About 2m high in centre, road ramped
up on either side until wall about 75cms high, about 90m in
length. Wall with vermiculated rustication, buttressed by 14
square piers ornamented with bands of ashlar and
vermiculation, upper band fluted, moulded caps with segmental
pediment, Etruscan stylized palmette in tympanum. Part of the
original layout of Adelaide Crescent.
