Infants' school, now shop. c1857, converted 1990. By Sir
Gilbert Scott. Brick with ashlar front and left return facade;
tile roof with fishscale bands.
EXTERIOR: Gable facing, front to right. Single storey;
4-window range. Coped gables. Entrance in gabled porch to
right end with pointed arch dying into stop-chamfered jambs,
similar return arches and inner entrance; trefoil to gable.
Windows of 3 trefoil-headed single-chamfered lights, that to
centre is tall with stepped triplet of lights, pointed
relieving arch and gable with trefoil and iron cross, now with
inserted door. Left return has window as to centre of front
with trefoil above. Late C20 glazed canopy on enriched
cast-iron piers.
The building forms a courtyard group with former St Mary's
Church of England School and master's house, (qv). Closing
wall extending to former master's house to west has been
demolished.
