Plymouth Brethren meeting room, now free chapel. 1839. Brick
with ashlar dressings; slate roof. Rectangular plan. Classical
style. Wide eaves and verges. East facade is symmetrical
3-window range with ends breaking back and windows to 2
levels. Left end has later C19 gabled porch with return
entrance, now window; right end has blocked segmental-headed
entrance. Windows have ashlar sills and gable-form lintels,
cross-casements with leaded glazing; no windows to west
elevation. North end has pedimental gable; C20 gabled porch
has return entrances with paired doors, and front
stained-glass window; tripartite upper window with ashlar sill
and surround, glazing as to east facade. INTERIOR: plain walls
and ceiling; C20 fittings. A very early example of a Plymouth
Brethren meeting room. The Plymouth Brethren were founded in
Plymouth, c1830.
