House (No.4), converted to warehouse use serving adjacent
mustard mill in 1749, when mill was built. No.4 probably
c1735. Converted back into a house 1968 when mill also
converted to flats.
Red brick. No.4 with slate roof.
2 storeys and dormer attic Sliding timber door and pedestrian
entrance to left; window to right. Above is a central cart
loading door flanked by a single-light window to left and a
plate-glass sash to right. Timber eaves cornice and a hipped
dormer in the gabled roof with a window of indeterminate
pedigree. Gable-end stack to right (south) adoped and enlarged
by abutting mill.
No.5 has a plaintile roof. On a corner site with south return
in King's Staithe Lane. 3 storeys. South side has 2 or 3
windows to each floor under segmental arches, now with late
C20 louvred glazing. One window is inserted cutting into the
platband at first floor. Platband runs through to west side.
Late C20 doorway. Brick modillion and saw-tooth eaves cornice.
South-west corner articulated by a gault-brick inverted
pendentive extending to middle of first floor.
West front in 4 bays, also 3 storeys. One bay of blind
windows, the remainder late C20 under segmental arches. To
south end is a large brick niche to ground floor with a
hemi-spherical dome. Hipped roof, but only half-hipped to
north. One hipped dormer to each of south and east roof
slopes.
