Assembly rooms. 1889. For Tamworth Corporation. Brick with
ashlar dressings; slate roof. Right-angle plan. Italianate
style. 2 storeys with attic; symmetrical 5-window range with
3-window centre breaking forward under segmental pediment. 3
entrances with angle pilasters, frieze and cornice, narrow
overlights to panelled doors. 1st floor has round-headed
windows with archivolts and small-paned glazing; attic has
architraved windows with imbricated friezes and cornices.
Ashlar plinth, brick channelled rustication to ground floor
with platt band over; 1st floor sill band and impost band;
brick angle pilasters and top frieze and cornice, pedimented
gable broken by attic with pilasters with foliate capitals,
entablature with date and pediment with boldly carved town
arms with mermaid supporters. 7-window right return has
similar 1st floor over narrow lean-to projection with entrance
to front with rusticated brick piers, cornice and stone-coped
parapet; paired panelled doors; left return similar, brick
channelled rustication to ground floor. Rear has narrower
gabled wing with return and rear lean-to outshuts and small
stacks.
