Description

WALFORD CP COUGHTON LANE (south side)
SO 62 SW

5/84 Coughton Mill House

- II

House. Late C17 and mid-C19. Roughly squared sandstone with slate roof.
T-plan. Two storeys. East wall has one-bay gabled cross-wing at left,
probably re-built in the C19 using some earlier masonry. It has casements,
and lintels with false voussoirs. On the ground floor is a square bay win-
dow, blind at the sides. The left-hand return wall of this wing has one bay
at the left with a gable. At the right is a ground floor window. Between is
a projecting chimney stack, with a door to its left. This has a gabled porch
with a chamfered inner doorway with triangular head. Adjoining to the right
of the cross-wing is the earlier part of the house, which has rebated and
chamfered mullioned windows. Its front wall is of one bay and has 2-light
windows. At the left is a cellar doorway with arched head. Chimney on
right-hand gable. The right-hand return wall has 3-light windows to the
ground and first floors, and blocked 2-light attic and cellar windows.
