House, now an inn. Early C16, altered in C17, extended as PH in
C19. Timber frame roughcast with old red tile roofs. Originally
a T-plan house with an open hall and wide, 2-storeys, jettied
crosswing at S (service rooms). Large central chimney and floor
in hall, and partition on upper floor of crosswing inserted in
C17, and upper floor at N end rebuilt as a narrow crosswing.
Single storey range added along S side of crosswing in C19, with
a projecting gabled front and lateral chimney in the angle with
the jettied crosswing. Irregular W front with one and a half
storeys centre and gabled 2-storeys wings. 4-light flush
casement window to hall with 2-light gabled dormer in the roof
slope, and roof carried down over an enclosed porch in line with
the recessed lower floor of the crosswing. This has a 3-light
casement window on the 1st floor and a canted bay sash window
beelow the jetty. The single-storey C19 wing has a cusped
bargeboard, a 3-light casement and 2-light casement on the N
return. The N end has a 2-light casement to the upper floor.
Central chimney of 4 engaged shafts (upper part rebuilt).
Interior has a plain crown-post with 2-way struts over the hall
range, and a C17 chamfered doorframe with bar stops in the
inserted partition on the 1st floor of the crosswing. (RCHM
