5/25 Pigencote to Home Farm
II
Pigencote. Mid-late C18 with later alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with ashlar
dressings and pantile roof. Square on plan, single bay, 2 storeys. To east side
are 2 segmentally-arched carriage entrances, one now blocked. Stable entrance
to west side with plank door with divided overlight. Pitching door to south side,
now blocked. First-floor ashlar band. To east side are 2 segmental-arched openings,
to south side a similar opening with multi-paned window. Cavetto-moulded ashlar
cornice. Hipped roof. Interior has brick nesting boxes to first floor. Formerly
had glass dome to summit and viewing platform and was used for astronomical
purposes. Home Farm to Womersley Park (qv) seat of the Earl of Rosse, a keen
astronomer.
